Tokyo stocks opened marginally lower on Monday as U.S. jobs data for May coming in below median expectations sent the dollar lower versus the yen which weighed on exporter issues here.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 24.42 points, or 0.12 percent, from Friday to 20,152.86.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 5.66 points, or 0.35 percent, to 1,606.54.
Iron and steel, nonferrous metal and transportation equipment-related stocks comprised issues that declined the most in early trade.
