Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday tracking losses on Wall Street overnight with a dour market mood compounded by a firm yen which weighed on exporter issues.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 85.75 points, or 0.44 percent, from Tuesday to 19,592.10.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 5.59 points, or 0.36 percent, to 1,567.08.
Mining, oil and coal product, and machinery-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in early trade.
