Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday after tech shares losing ground at the U.S. at the end of last week and machinery orders here for April dropping on month dented investor sentiment.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 92.51 points, or 0.46 percent, from Friday to 19,920.75.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 0.34 point, or 0.02 percent, to 1,591.32.
Electric appliance, information and communication, and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in early trade.
