Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday as the market mood was lifted by robust manufacturing and jobs data from the U.S. broadly suggesting the worlds largest economy was back on a growth track.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 195.26 points, or 0.98 percent, from Thursday to 20,055.29.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 13.63 points, or 0.86 percent, to 1,599.77.
Iron and steel, securities, and oil and coal product-linked stocks comprised those that gained the most in early trade.
