Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday as investors bought back shares on dips following the market's recent run of closing lows.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 135.12 points, or 0.69 percent, from Wednesday to 19,785.69.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 9.88 points, or 0.63 percent, to 1,578.25.
Insurance, rubber product and metal product-related issues comprised those that gained the most in early trade.
