Tokyo stocks were mixed Monday morning as tech shares declined tracking losses in the U.S. last week, while machinery orders dropping here in April also added to investor consternation.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 71.46 points, or 0.36 percent, from Friday to 19,941.80.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 3.38 points, or 0.21 percent, to 1,595.04.

Electrical appliance, information and communication, and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
