Tokyo Stocks Edge Higher in Morning as Wall Street Sets Positive Tone

Tokyo stocks edged higher Wednesday morning as the market mood was lifted by a solid showing on Wall Street overnight, although gains were capped as some investors took a wait-and-see approach ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve policy board meeting concluding later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 20.34 points, or 0.10 percent, at 19,919.09.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 0.59 point, or 0.04 percent, at 1,594.10.

Precision instrument, air transportation and land transportation-related issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
