The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 10.03 points, or 0.63 percent, to finish at 1,606.07.
Metal product, service and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play, and advancing issues outpaced declining ones by 1,414 to 508 on the First Section.
Trading volume on the main section on Monday came to 1,484.69 million shares, dropping from Friday's volume of 2,285.56 million shares.
