French shares edged up on Tuesday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.40 percent, or 21.15 points, to close at 5,261.74 points.

31 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

French multinational advertising and public relations company Publicis Groupe advanced 2.68 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. French company producing ophthalmic lenses, Essilor Intl. rose 2.39 percent.

French luxury goods holding company Kering gained 2.41 percent.

French multinational automobile manufacturer Renault went down by 2.70 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. French telecom giant Orange SA lost 1.23 percent. French multinational electric utility company Engie S.A. edged down 0.62 percent.
