British stocks decreased on Thursday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down by 0.74 percent, or 55.04 points, to close at 7,419.36 points.
Ashtead Group, a British industrial equipment rental company, soared 1.46 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. HSBC Holdings and Royal Bank of Scotland Group increased by 0.88 percent and 0.64 percent, respectively.
The Mexican-based precious metals mining company Fresnillo was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 7.26 percent. The British clothing and home products retailer Next dropped 6.14 percent. A multinational mining company Anglo American, fell 6.03 percent.
